Australian artist, Magnets is “fem-pop you can dance to”, and we can’t really disagree.
Taken from her debut EP, ‘Perpetual Motion’, ‘Liquor’ is a guitar driven thriller with a haunting beat – matching the crazy and wonderful music video.
The music video for the single is a jarring take on the themes of self-realisation and strength, with a fierce visual depiction. Shot and directed by Donna Yeatman, ‘Liquor’s’ visual treatment is certainly an interesting one to say the least.
A Dionysian sense of theatre, sexuality and ecstatic madness cleverly filters the clip. This is portrayed in the shattering of glass, the tearing off clothes and physical gestures of lovely ‘Fuck You’ to the camera. A transformative nature moves with the characters, as they shed skins from stereotypical glamour to glam.
In the last 12-months Magnets released three singles from ‘Perpetual Motion’, added to triple j’s unearthed, a publishing deal with Gaga Music, and over 50k streams. There’s plenty more in store for Magnets so sick around.
