South African artist Michael Sebastian is to release his new single ‘Trend’ on Friday, which is now premiering on ICM!
Now living in London, ‘Trend’ is the multi-instrumentalist’s third release of 10 this year via his label The Animal Farm.
‘Trend’ infuses rock, funk and electro-pop to create the feel of a 90’s grunge rave. Sebastian’s use of different genres adds a cultural feel to his music, his attraction to groovy jazz and colour ties in well to his lyrics.
As a day job, Sebastian is on the streets of the capital, improvising with a loop-pedal, a mic and a bright pink guitar. This has created a sensitivity to music’s ability to move people, which shows in his work, and resonates at gigs with help from his full live band.
Their next show is at the Hope and Anchor on the 7th of May on a stage that has been walked on by; The Clash, The Police, Joy Division and The Ramones. Reserve your place here: www.facebook.com/events/252090545255878/
Speaking about the track, Michael Sebastian said; “Trend is about what’s cool and what’s not cool. Often we find ourselves in places just because they’re cool but yearn for places that we really enjoy.
“Trend, for me, describes the discomfort of being in a place that should be fun, but instead feels like a pretence.”
