Black Honey at House of Vans

Black Honey performing at House Of Vans

To reopen the legendary House of Vans, London was treated to an always incredible performance by Brighton-born indie rockers Black Honey. If you haven’t heard of either House of Vans or Black Honey here’s a quick rundown.

House of Vans

Carved into the Arches of Waterloo sits the London branch of House of Vans, a place where people from all creative walks of life can come to showcase work as well as being a haven for skaters and BMX riders.

“It’s a place where imagination lets loose over concrete bowls, art installations, workshops and concert stages, inspiring every person who runs, rolls, or stomps through its door.” – House of Vans London

Black Honey

Born and bred in Brighton, this four piece have mastered the art of not only being one of the best active indie bands out there but also how to put on one of the most brilliant shows you’ll ever see. They’ve completely developed their own sound and style to the point that it wouldn’t be fair on them to compare them to any other band. With a catalogue of songs like Corinne, Madonna, Hello Today, and various tracks that can only be heard live or on B-sides now like Mothership and Teenager, it’s no wonder why the group have gained the popularity they have. What about their live performance though?

Black Honey live are nothing short of heavenly and certainly were hitting the same level at House of Vans belting out their songs with an entire audience singing straight back. Izzy B. Phillips knows exactly how to put on a show, how to entice the crowd with her Americana style voice and make the performance far more special than listening to them at home. Drawing out the notes of songs like Spinning Wheel to make the eventual kick even more powerful, and making everyone get on their knees for the middle of Mothership are just two of the ways this band absolutely kill it on stage.

If you have any opportunity to go see this legendary band live I would whole heartedly recommend it.

“Stay in touch yeah?” – Izzy B. Phillips
