I love a good cowbell. Didn’t think I’d ever start an article like that but here we are. Now of course I do mean in terms of a drum kit, I don’t just collect cowbells. Cowbells aren’t used enough, Royal Blood briefly did on their latest album but they’re far few and between other than that. The cowbell I am talking about in particular belongs to the drummer of this week’s artist spotlight; Fizzy Blood.

Fizzy Blood first came to my attention a few month ago when they were announced as support for Spring King’s headline tour, but by no means have they left my head since. Here on the artist spotlight segment I range between indie pop to standard indie rock. It is however always incredible to see a band break these standard barriers and make a name for themselves in this scene. Fizzy Blood are on the far heavier side of the spectrum, even bordering metal-y at times.

With several singles and two eps behind them Fizzy Blood have plenty to get into. The best way I can describe their sound, to me at least, is if you blended Biffy Clyro with a little bit of Queens of the Stone Age, and a dash of Pulled Apart by Horses. This isn’t the first time this coparison has been made. In fact the band have been given tonnes of attention and rightly so with their eps reaching five star ratings from several music media sources and their singles frequently doing the same.

So if you like the heavier end of the spectrum of indie music, and trust the word of Spring King, then you’ll love Fizzy Blood.
