The Canadian indie-pop band Alvvays have shared ‘Dreams Tonite’: the second single release from their upcoming sophomore album ‘Antisocialites’.
Alvvays debuted ‘Dreams Tonite’ at Coachella last year, leaving fans in anticipation for its studio release. ‘Dreams Tonite’ follows the release of lead single ‘In Undertow’ last month and explores the same shoegaze-y sound ‘Antisocialites’ as an album is sure to boast. Reminiscent of a Cocteau Twins track, ‘Dreams Tonite’ is a familiar, dream pop tune surrounded in woozy reverb.
The single marks the inclusion of the new album’s title: ‘in fluorescent light, Antisocialites watch a wilting flower’. ‘Dreams Tonite’ is shy and yearning; the melody is familiar and lingers in your mind like a song you’ve heard before: Molly Rankin’s vocals are recognisably longing and absorbing as she pines for a stranger: ‘If I saw you on the street would I have you in my dreams tonight?’
With the release of ‘In Undertow’ and ‘Dreams Tonite’, Alvvays’ ‘Antisocialites’ looks set to rival their 2014 self-titled debut in terms of dream-pop sounds and distant love songs.
Alvvays’ second album ‘Antisocialites’ will be released on September 8th. You can catch the band on their UK tour starting next month:
