Blaenavon – Orthodox Man (acoustic)

Blaenavon

Blaenavon, an indie rock band formed in Hampshire despite the misleading Welsh town of their namesake, formed back in 2013, and have since come to play alongside music prodigies such as the likes of Reading and Leeds 2016 headline act Foals, as well as Bloc Party and Warpaint.

The band’s newest release, an acoustic cover of their single ‘Orthodox Man’, hit our speakers earlier this month: after already receiving thousands of hits on Spotify, it has soliloquized sentiments of serenity and comfort among listeners; the perfect blend of amiable lyrics and delicately rounded acoustic guitar oozes with a warm, cosily domestic feel.

Ben Gregory’s mellifluous vocals softly liaise with the gentle plucks of guitar to create a more relaxed version of the original song, an adaptation allowing the tune to conform to a more low-key kind of mood, yet remaining all the more enticing. Progressing past the introduction exemplifies eloquently expressed metaphors and a few instances of layering with muted arpeggios subtly complimenting the rhythmic guitar.

The future is looking promising for the trio as they are set to release their album titled ‘That’s Your Lot’ on the 7th of April, possibly in time for some of this Summer’s festis? Who knows.
