Black Honey graced our Friday morning last week with a new track entitled ‘Somebody Better’. It’s from the bands up and coming album of the same name, due to be released later this year.
Vocalist Izzy B Phillips sings of wanting to be someone different- lyrics riddled with self deprecation and anxiety that form a stark contrast to the confident and heavy guitar that underlays the song from the offset. The track oozes a level of self assurance that is only rising with each new release from the Brighton fourpiece.
The old movie poster- style artwork that made their previous album covers so memorable seems to be here to stay as well, with this one depicting a mushroom cloud of smoke exploding next to a 60’s style pool scene. This to me suggests that Black Honey have had their image and sound ready and set since before anyone even knew their name.
Izzy B Phillips, Chris Ostler, Tommy Taylor and Tom Dewhurst make up the fourpiece, and are heading out on their own UK headline tour at the end of this month. By what I can recall from the last performance I saw of theirs, supporting Catfish and the Bottlemen at Kentish Town last year, their own gigs are not going to be ones to miss.
