New Zealand rockers Voodoo Bloo are back with latest single ‘Small;’ a gripping rock anthem that shows a new side to the band’s hard-hitting alt rock.
The four-piece have been lawing low over the past few months as they get into writing more and producing new material. ‘Small’ is just the latest in a string of releases that will ultimately build up towards their second studio album.
The track is a notable departure from Voodoo Bloo’s high-octane post-punk as they opt for a more emotive soundscape with soaring guitar melodies, driving bass lines and energetic drum beats.
With that played over frontman Rory McDonald’s distinctive, and impassioned vocals, it fits the song perfectly. ‘Small’ is about the Peter Pan complex, knowing you have to grow up no matter how hard the change may be.
McDonald said on the track: “In a way, it was written not only to a younger self but also my mother, about my growth into a person and the distance it’s created from memories long gone.
“This is a new frontier for Voodoo Bloo, a new chapter of what we stand for and what we wish to create beyond our wildest imagination.”
Following up on 2021’s single ‘Skin’, the four-piece are currently working on their second album titled The Blessed Ghost. They have been in the studio with producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Bullet for my Valentine) and Scott Seabright (Mumford and Sons, Passenger) to carefully craft a new era of Voodoo Bloo.
