Watford quartet The Spitfires shares new track ‘Take Action!’, the b-side to their brand new single ‘Over And Over Again’ to be released on Friday (December 15).
You can really hear their The Clash, Billy Bragg and The Jam influences, reviving the mod subculture with a mixture of ska, soul and reggae.
Commenting on the track, frontman Billy Sullivan said: “’Take Action!’ was written in the early part of this year and for me was almost a message to myself to get up and do something.
“Try to change the way maybe the band was going or my life was going or a message to other people to do the same. Musically I think it’s up there as one of the most powerful songs we’ve done.”
Their work ethic and powerful song-writing mixed with their acute social commentary and lack of mainstream industry support has made this fiercely independent band one of the most popular underground success stories in the UK. This DIY attitude and independent spirit has earned them a dedicated following and sold out shows across the whole of the UK and Europe.
The single will be available on 7” vinyl and via all good digital retailers and comes with this new track ‘Take Action!’ as the B-side, with a special 14+ single release show in London on 16th December at The Borderline, with further UK tour dates lined up heading into 2018 (dates below).
On Thursday 14th December at their Flagship Carnaby Street store in London, The Spitfires will appear as part of the ‘Ben Sherman presents The Crisis Sessions’ in support of ‘Everybody In’, which aims to bring people together to change opinions, raise awareness and, ultimately, end the suffering and injustice of homelessness for good.
To support the initiative Ben Sherman have collaborated with Crisis to create an ‘Everybody In’ tee, £5 from each t-shirt sold online and in-store will go to Crisis to help raise funds and awareness to help end homelessness.
The band said of the news: “We can’t fail to be moved by the amount of homelessness we see when we play up and down the country.
“After all, for many people, if they missed just two paydays, they could find themselves homeless too. It hits home how precarious things are in the UK at the moment.
“So we’re very pleased to do something in return for Crisis on their 50th anniversary, and help raise awareness in conjunction with Ben Sherman, who are a label we hold close to our hearts.”
