Myself and George went to see Embassy, Vitamin and Sundara Karma at The Horns, St Albans. It’s a fairly small venue for the Reading based band, but the crowd swiftly got in the mood for a bit of dancing. The three acts have a fairly similar style of indie/ alternative rock music, yet with their own unique twists that gave each of them a special sound. Alex even had a go at his own photography! (I don’t think I did to bad!).
The night kicked off with the deliciously awkward Embassy, a five piece alternative band from Hertfordshire! What started off as another mediocre indie group quickly became a more comfortable and in your face alt band with a deep attitude to match. Although the majority of songs could have been beefed up with supporting vocals, a gorgeous and rich tone from Charlie Ridler kept the band afloat and interesting from start to finish. Our final verdict you ask? We like them. A lot. Embassy have what it takes to be standing in Sundara Karma shoes in a year or two. They have all the ingredients to succeed. They just need a bit of stage experience! That will of course come in time and we can’t wait to see them again in the future! – George (https://www.facebook.com/
The Leeds quartet started off with ‘Miss You’. the group have a very 80s style approach to their music and unlike Embassy, the band have had a year to be nurtured and experienced on stage. To perform so boldly was an amazing sight and with the indie-pop lovers have a lot to offer in the coming weeks. After just releasing the singles ‘To Believe’ and ‘Need Air’. (which have proven to be very popular on SoundCloud and Spotify) The echoey track is a stunner which certainly gets you on your feet thanks to the funky guitars and radio melodies in the poppy tune will certainly appeal to fans of The 1975, Peace, Swim Deep and Saint Raymond.- Alex (https://www.facebook.com/
We’ve always loved Sundara Karma; It’s no secret that we’ve been a fan since the very beginning and will continue to enjoy their music and tonight was no different! The four piece (who need absolutely no introduction) have had a fantastic run riding the top of the food chain as of late. With an awesome push from BBC Radio 1 and supporting the Wombats, Sundara have had a successful UK tour so far and continue to sell out shows every week.
You know what a Sundara Karma song sounds like and it’s their originality that makes them ever so special. With both enigmatic big hitters like ‘Loveblood’ and beautiful/blissful ‘The Night’, every song has it’s own bubbly personality that you just can’t get enough of !- George
I have noticed after seeing them at Keele with The Wombats, the crowd take a few songs to get in the mood. This was the same here at The Horns. As new song ‘Runaway’ came on (fourth song) the, everyone was getting their heads bopping and body jumping! The heavy rock beat with a light indie-pop twang had everybody hooked for the forthcming EP! Another popular track from the new EP is ‘Viviene’, a loud and danceable track that is an easy crowd goer.
Sundara’s new EP (EP II) is available from November 6th with tracks, ‘Diamond Cutter’ and ‘Runaway’ that were featured in last night’s gig. – Alex (https://www.facebook.com/
