On his SCUM tour, RAT BOY just knows how to connect with his audience with perfection, its as if we’re being brainwashed.
Rat Boy and his band burst out onto the stage to ‘INTRO’ with the whole crowd already pumped, dripping in sweat and screaming like hell before going straight into an unreleased track ‘TURN ROUND MATE’ – which they have played live numerous times live before – was ruined by the bright gleaming light hitting your face and blinding you. Not fun.
Last time RAT BOY came to The Sugarmill he brought a motorbike onto the stage, crazy I know! This time he’s taken a calmer approach by having two traffic island cones lit either side of him. ‘GET OVER IT’ cause a huge epidemic of mad teens energetically jumping around, releasing their pre-teen edgy style.
‘I H8 U’ gave RAT BOY a chance to cool down with a drink of water as he moves straight into ‘REVOLUTION’ (listen below) which sends the crowd into shock. I don’t think I’ve seen a crowd get so emotional about a track, especially as its his latest track so I wasn’t expecting many people to know it. Just goes to show that RAT BOY has some true, passionate fans with him.
We keep the momentum going with ‘SIGN ON’ and yet more bright, blinding lights in the way brings the crowd to life with about five or six lads crowd surfing and plenty of mosh pits inbetween before finishing their fucking amazing, action packed set off with ‘KICKED OUTTA SCHOOL’.
Of course, it’s time for the encore couldn’t have started with a better song; ‘MOVE’ but by now you could feel the dirty hot air and feel the warm sweat dripping off your nose and hair and following up ‘FAKE ID’ where everyone stopped playing their instruments and sing the track while the bassist climb up onto the left side of the stage and moved across the balcony whilst holding onto the railings, reaching down to pica fan’s phone up to take a selfie before climbing back down to carry on singing. What. A. Night.
