Following the release of rock anthem ‘Amsterdam’, Nothing But Thieves return with their euphoric new single ‘Sorry’. The song is somewhat slower than usual, with edgy yet compelling vocals which comes ahead of the release of their second album ‘Broken Machine’ on September 8th.

Accompanied by a video set in a time of impending disaster, ‘Sorry’ talks about facing your inner demons and reasoning with the past. The video connects somewhat with the troubles of today, with the imminent struggles of everyday life and thriving in hard times being ever more relevant in our ever-changing society.

With surprisingly soft vocals and tender melodies, it feels as if we see a different side to the five-piece’s alternative rock branding, with ‘Sorry’ feeling almost reminiscent of popular release ‘If I Get High’, taken from their self-titled debut album released in 2015. Lead singer Conor Mason’s intoxicating and blissful voice creates emotional undertones of regret within their song, provoking empathy on every listener.

With mesmerising lyrics such as “maybe I’m bad natured or maybe I’m young”, this new single is a personal favourite of mine. On first listen, the song feels uplifting, when in fact it conveys a powerful message of facing the prospect of losing everything, and what regrets that might bring.

With such a powerful new song, Nothing But Thieves have gone from strength to strength recently as they are fresh from playing Glastonbury and headlining their first festival, 2000 trees. Their new release comes just months ahead of their US tour kicking off in October followed by a UK tour in November. If “Amsterdam” and “Sorry” are any hints at the bands future, then exciting times are ahead with their indie-rock vibes and captivating music.
