South Londoners Night Flight return with their second single ‘God Knows’ taken from their upcoming EP, ‘Carousel’.
The five-piece encapsulate sounds from a pleasing variety of eras and genres. The band’s upcoming second EP is a stunning journey centred around topics ranging from the lust and isolation of chasing a dream, to personal defiance and resilience in search of closure.
The new single ‘God Knows’ opens up with a strong guitar riff, before gliding its way through the chorus. The melodies and instrumentals are hit with meaning that gives the track an uplifting feel.
Speaking on the track, Samuel Holmes explained: “A song centred on the drive, lust and isolation of chasing a dream, with an air of playful flippancy and circumstantial irony attached.”
“A lot of the writing that I do comes from Nick Drake, John Martin and Jeff Buckley in its initial state,” says Sam.
“I take a lot from The Beatles, Big Star, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones and bands like that – but all of our tastes are eclectic.
“There are just as many modern influences ranging from Kurt Vile, Angel Olsen, and War On Drugs, to Kevin Morby and Andy Shauf.”
Night Flight are Samuel Holmes (guitar/vocals), Harry Phillips (guitar/backing vocals), Nick Holbeck (keys/backing vocals), Dan Webb (drums) and Andy Leishman (bass).
