ICM Awards 2018: Track of the Year Nominees

Every year we find ourselves absolutely blown away by the talent shown throughout indie music. Its the wondrous intricacies of every chord, the sublime drum beats, and the stunning lyricism that can ignite a sense of discussion in a somewhat political message or instead, simply, offer pure escapism.

Whether it is all about the lyrics or instead, the delights of multi-instrumentalism, or in fact a perfect blend of both, there is certainly the making of an iconic track.

Now that we come close to the end of 2018, it’s time for you guys to let us know the greatest track of the year via the voting link below.

ARCTIC MONKEYS – FOUR OUT OF FIVE

Instigated with an infectious riff and the bellowing acoustics of Alex Turner’s vocals, ‘Four Out Of Five’ is by far the greatest offering from the band’s latest LP. ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’ is certainly one to spark controversy, but if you forget about the LP as a whole for a second and just immerse yourself in the 5-minute ensemble, letting your imagination wander on the picturesque landscape that Alex paints, you’ll understand why this track is simply divine.

TEN TONNES – G.I.V.E.

Ten songs in so far, and we think Ten Tonnes has finally offered a potential track of the year. G.I.V.E. is the pinnacle of summery goodness infused with the lightly sprinkled realisation of relationship insecurities. The relatability of this track is what makes it so special – the on-point perfection of its message and the ability to uplift any mood. When making a track, it’s not always about what you’re saying, it’s about how, and that is clearly something that Ten Tonnes has mastered, incredibly well.

BLOSSOMS – THERE’S A REASON WHY (I NEVER RETURNED YOUR CALLS)

Blossoms have always had a unique quality, whether it’s the sound, the dynamic of the band members or Tom Ogden’s lyrical insights. Either way, its always had that right level of in-your-face-ness. Since The Killers’ Hot Fuss peak, we’ve not really seen a glam rock replacement. Albeit, Blossoms aren’t strictly glam rock, but they certainly offer that modernised-twist.  ‘There’s A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls)’ is the perfect example of this. With the offset of nostalgic reminiscence and anthemic synths, which ultimately collide mid-track to provide a sound entirely capable of standing the test of time, Blossoms have well and truly created an iconic track worthy of the track of the year title.

MARSICANS – POP-UPS (SUNNY AT THE WEEKEND)

Hailing from Leeds, Marsicans are really starting to perfect their element. ‘Pop-Ups (Sunny at the Weekend)’ is an exceptional work of art truly demonstrating how the mellow verse/explosive chorus duo is beyond complimentary. Often overlooked and underrated by many, the ability to create a track anywhere remotely alike ‘Pop-Ups…’ is an admiral skill.

EASY LIFE – NIGHTMARES

Five gifted individuals performing with an array of instruments creates one of the most minimalistic yet delicate and fragile sounds that 2018 has had the pleasure to be bestowed upon. Easy Life have released an extensive collection of tracks over the past 12 months, but ‘Nightmares’ stands out to us at ICM the most. The introductory brass, the invitational narrative and unconventional nature that all Easy Life tracks possess, make this truly a potential track of the year.
