A gentle drum intro and soft but fuzzy guitar lead you into the warm harmonised vocals of Hey Charlie’s brand new track ‘Young & Lonesome’; at least that’s the first impression.
For those who don’t know Hey Charlie yet here’s a quick rundown. Hey Charlie are made up of three British girls, clad in red and white, entirely ready to take the British indie music scene by storm. The trio burst in with their debut track ‘Hey’ which was reminiscent of Nirvana’s fuzzy grungy rock. It was powerful and bass heavy and fuzzed out to the high heavens. In short it was beautiful. Since then Hey Charlie have had tonnes of great press, a release through Flying Vinyl, and were featured here on our Artist Spotlight segment.
So how does the trio’s latest track hold up?
‘Young & Lonesome’ is far less loud and fast paced than ‘Hey’ their previous release, but by no means is this bad. The track seems to tell of the angsty feelings of that of the…well…young and lonesome. It’s something everyone’s been through, ‘broken glass, broken youth, we’re all okay, its just another phase’ was a particular lyric that hit the nail on the head. It’s far a softer tone overall but with that fuzzed out feeling still there. ‘Young and Lonesome’ is one for the soundtrack of your teenage years, it hits hard but also fills you with the wish to dance around your room in your lonesome state.
This is going to kill live and we can’t wait to see what Hey Charlie continue to release
