Castle Pines release ‘Change of Time’ ahead of sophomore LP

Alt-rock quartet Castle Pines drop their latest single ‘Change of Time’ ahead of their sophomore album.

Hailing from Corona, California, the bands dutifully dedicated and charismatic members include Leandro Barrientos (vocalist) and Ricky Garvey (lead guitarist), Sterling Fairfield (percussionist) and Jesse Briseno (bassist). Castle Pines was named after the street the band grew up on and met, and with different people and memories being made there, the past hauntings of the experiences shared there remain only in memory.

The new single is the fifth release this year for their second album ‘Por Vida’. The track is a passage of time, a manmade construct of measurement to comprehend the movement of the cosmos and the journey of life. With Time comes the experiences and memories that create the makeup of these moments.

Taking a human approach to this big concept of passing time by relating it to seeing a city, home and environment change through looking back in contemplative melancholy. The lyrics are an anthemic call urging the listener to move forward and beyond the tribulation.

The lead singer Leandro Barrientos, after sitting through hospital visits with Castle Pines’ drummer Sterling Fairfield, learning of his uncle’s death and diagnosis of dementia of his grandmother, penned the first draft of the song. It was later in 2018 after recording the music that the lyrical content took a different meaning as Leandro’s other grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

The band said: “The concept of time is 100% rooted in individual memory, and with the loss of memory does that perceived notion of Time exist?”

If you have a sweet spot for Liam Fray and the Courteeners then you’ll love Castle Pines. Barrientos’ voice is so distinct and to match, their music is quite alike. To hear more, check out their previous single ‘Woo Hoo’. The next single ‘March Mellow’ is out November 9.
