Pioneers are going places with their infectious and melodic indie rock

Southampton’s Indie Rockers Pioneers have had an absolute blast this year and have now rounded the year off with new single ‘Say What You Want’.

After selling out their last hometown headline show at The 1865 and releasing fan favourites ‘Feeling Blue’ and Modern Age Music Song of the Day ‘What Can I Say?’, the band’s indie rock is going places.

Rhythmic guitars light up the room as frontman Sam Watt’s vocals kick into action. The melody is crips like the 00s rock classics they love and the drumming is upbeat and carefree.

When asked about the track, Sam said: “When writing Say What You Want I found myself listening to early 00’s indie, like The Strokes and Libertines for a while.

“I loved the simplicity of the tracks and how they hit you straight in the face, the drums and guitars were influenced specifically from this.

“The track itself is all about that first encounter with someone and being completely transfixed by them.

“The idea of ‘Say What You Want’ is to not overthink or act like someone you’re not. Say what you want as there will be no judgement, just be yourself.”

The band is made up by frontman Sam, drummer Charlie Flide, lead guitarist Toby Gathercole, and bassist Sam Over, they all met in school and bonded over a mutual love of late noughties indie music from the likes of Jamie T and Arctic Monkeys.

April 18th saw the return of The Wombats to Glasgow for their two-night residential at the institution that is, The Barrowlands Ballroom. The Show began with the amazing support of Sports Team who really got the crowd riled up and ready for what was to come. Being in the pit during the support alone, gave a sense of how the night was shaping up, we were two songs in and it was already
