2018 Ones To Watch #9 – BlackWaters

BlackWaters

BlackWaters are an immensely exciting indie punk four-piece currently smashing the Sheffield music scene. Made up of singer Max, guitarist David, bassist Ollie and drummer James they describe themselves as “taking influences from British punk circa ’76. rebooting it for a new generation” and “capturing the essence of disaffected youth”.

The band formed in Guildford in 2014 after meeting at Academy of Contemporary Music and have since supported the likes of The Libertines, Marmozets, and The Amazons.

2017 was a mad year for the band, with them playing the This Feeling tour along with Bang Bang Romeo and The Shimmer Band, as well as insane sets at Reading, Download, Y  Not,  Truck and just about every other decent festival you can think of.

They released a double A-side in June consisting of ‘Let The Good Times Roll’, a shouty and aggressive but still upbeat song about the fleeting aspect of youth. Paired with a completely different but just as catchy ‘Love Is A Future Computer (Try Another Way)’. If it wasn’t for Max’s raw distinct vocals the slow simple chords make it almost unrecognisable as a BlackWaters song but show off the talent and diversity of the band’s songwriting.

The bands most recent single ‘Magic Man’ was released solely on YouTube on Christmas day along with a very entertaining video depicting the story behind the songs (a dodgy drug dealer).

2018 is going to be huge for BlackWaters, with new music coming soon be sure to keep an eye on’em!
