Venus Demilo face mental health head on with new single ‘Holding You’

Liverpool’s indie pop veterans Venus Demilo have returned with new single ‘Holding You’ as the band take their sound to new heights.

Following up on a string of singles and EP Northern Lights, the four-piece are pushing their soundscape further into alt pop territory with synths, electronic beats and atmospheric melodies.

Keeping lyrics close to their hearts on mental health and talking about the ongoing battle to beat it, ‘Holding You’ is a song about “fighting off negativity,” comments frontman Tom Anderson.

Written by Spring Offensive guitarist Matt Cooper and Venus Demilo frontman Tom Anderson with Seatbelts drummer Alex Quinn producing the song with Tom, guitarist Josh, drummer Ryan and bassist Jake at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios.

Tom added: “When Matt (Cooper) first played me and Josh an early version of the song, the line he wrote that instantly stood out was ‘remember they’re thoughts that’s all, they’re just connections and chemicals’.

“That’s a message that people need to hear.

“The negative side of your brain isn’t you, it’s the chemicals in your brain telling you to perceive things negatively.

“For me personally, understanding that has helped enormously in those lowest moments, knowing that the battle isn’t with myself but with the way that I perceive things”.

‘Holding You’ is the most honest song Venus Demilo has released to date. It follows in the footsteps of their earliest releases, ‘Sophia’ and ‘Sinking Ships’ which also face mental health head on.
