Twin Peaks’ ‘Sweet ’17 Singles’ series brings its fourth monthly pairing of singles: ‘Blue Coupe’ and ‘On The Line’. The Sweet ‘17 Singles series is a subscription of two Twin Peaks singles every month from July-December this year; given a ‘demanding touring schedule, the group figured a good way to release new music without having to carve out the time to record a full length LP between tours would be to track out whenever we could find the time, and release the music in a series of singles’.

As an experimental take on creating and releasing new music, the structure of two singles per month ‘allowed … the opportunity to experiment without a focus on creating a cohesive body of work’. For pairs of singles seemingly unrelated, and without the constraints and confines of creating something cohesive, the Sweet ‘17 Singles series has a unified feeling within its pairings, but also as a whole playlist. To classify it one way, they could be soundtracking an indie film with two singles playing out per beachy-artsy scene.

‘Blue Coupe’ and ‘On The Line’, October’s releases, are the seventh and eighth tracks from the Sweet ‘17 singles series.

‘Blue Coupe’ is the only single so far with bassist Jack Dolan’s lead vocals, it’s a song about loss and acceptance, ‘I just miss you down here where the other people try to move on’, ‘now you’re a star, it’s just the way that things are’. Musically, ‘Blue Coupe’ is easy listening, soft, and perfect in the background of a lazy morning. Dreamy guitar infuses a hazy melody with piano sounds to create a retro soundscape, atmospheric in combination with the song’s meaning and personal weight. ‘

On The Line’ maintains this echoey, soft musicality, with a count into the track that immerses you into the single. With a cyclical chorus, gentle slow vocals, and coming in and only just over 2 minutes long, ‘On The Line’ has a late-summer feel that begs a second, third, fourth listen.
