Stereophonics Release New Track ‘Before Anyone Knew Our Name’

Welsh rock band Stereophonics are back with a new track in preparation for the release of their tenth studio album ‘Scream Above The Sounds’.

Stereophonics have been around for many years, forming back in 1992 and consists of members Kelly Jones (lead vocals and guitar), Richard Jones (bass guitar, piano and backing vocals), Adam Zindani (guitar and backing vocals) and Jamie Morrison (drums).

Along with the song itself, the band have released the music video, in memory of late drummer Stuart Cable. It was Jones himself who did the filming.

The video is simple, consisting of only Jones sat at a piano playing the song, with snippets of him driving around West London.

Although the piano playing is very minimalistic, it perfectly accompanies the powerful lyrics and emotional vocal performance. The song clearly means a lot to the band, opening with “I miss you man, before anyone knew our name”.

Jones said about the piece; “I guess a lot of the point of the song also is, you know, Stuart and I lived seven doors apart all our lives, and from the age of 12 I was in a band with him.

“So we were trying to be the people we became for a long time, before anybody knew who we were. So there’s a lot of history there before we even had a record deal. People forget that sometimes.

“There’s a lot of history there and sometimes people make judgements or calls on what happened when they don’t really know the backstory.”

The song is incredibly moving and a wonderful way to commemorate their friend and fellow band member.
