Having entered the frame last October with debut outing ‘Going Places’, the release of latest single ‘It Doesn’t Matter’ manifests another vital snapshot of new London outfit Secret Cameras.
Now that the attention of the likes of Radio X and BBC Radio 2’s Huey Morgan has been fully caught, the group, fronted by the imposing Itamar Starets, have carved us off another taster of what may lie ahead in their forthcoming EP – and it’s certainly worth sitting up and taking notice of.
Coming from a White Lies, Editors kind of direction, this number starts off in a rather unassuming, low-key fashion, evoking somewhat the sounds of Joy Division in its minimalism and gradual build-up.
As soon as you might have got yourself settled in, though, you’re taken on an ambitious leap to an arena-sized uplifting chorus, with crashing drums, wide synth backing and grinding guitars all melded together for good measure.
Pulling off what it intends to for the most part, ‘It Doesn’t Matter’ keeps the band – who have already worked with the likes of Grammy-nominated producer David Bascombe – on what can assuredly be considered the right track, demonstrating a careful attention to that crucial refrain that can only serve to bring them more attention in the months to come.
If you’re after a more thorough inspection of these lot, I’d get yourself down to their EP launch night at Camden’s 229 The Venue on March 17th (tickets can be found here). Bring your cameras, may they be covert, overt or otherwise.
‘It Doesn’t Matter’ is available via streaming and digital download now. Secret Cameras’ eponymous debut EP will be released 17th March.
