We often hear of members of bands sadly passing away, but for a whole band to be wiped out in such a way has come as a massive shock to all of us.
All four members of Viola Beach and their manager died after falling 82ft after a car crash in Sweden, while they were part of a Swedish music festival.
It may be an overused cliche, but this band really were destined for great things – and we weren’t the only ones to believe it. They played at Reading and Leeds last year, Spotify featured them on one of their playlists, Hew Stephens gave them a spin on Radio 1 and Radio X tipped them to be a “great X-Pectation” for 2016.
Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs paid tribute on his Radio X show earlier today, “it’s awful news and it just brings it so close to home when it’s part of a world that your part of. I’ve been in many cars late at night after festivals and gigs and it just brings it home, it’s just a reminder about how fragile life is. All our thoughts at Radio X are with their family.”
As a tribute, Radio X is Playing Viola Beach on every show today.
Tributes have also been flowing in through Twitter.
