Plastic Sun revel in 80s electronica and modern indie rock

Plastic Sun return with new single Talking About You Man

London trio Plastic Sun are back with their sophomore single ‘Talking About You Man’ as the David Bowie inspired 80s electro-rock is flourishing.

Comprised of Joshua Woo (vocals, bass, guitar, keys & saxophone), Alessandro Melchior (guitar, bass & keys), and Keir Adamson (drums, percussion & keys), the band are deeply emotive in their lyricism and bold in confidence.

Having previously released ‘Violent Blue Life’ in October last year, Plastic Sun are reinventing what it means to be an ‘indie-guitar’ band.

Encompassing the same intriguing melting pot of influences as its predecessor, ‘Talking About You Man’ fuses chugging guitar and retro 80’s electronic touches, with frontman Josh Woo’s vocal moving from the falsetto of the previous single to something commanding yet still as deeply emotive.

‘Talking About You Man’ started life as a reaction to the #MeToo movement, and as a condemnation of sexism and toxic masculinity.

As Woo expands: “We need to listen to women and take a long, hard look at ourselves as men. When I say ‘I’m sick of it,’ I truly mean it. I can only imagine how sick of it women must be.”

Before long, the song’s chorus took on new significance, with Woo mentally taking aim at certain men in power enabling the unequal status quo.

The track’s technicoloured guitar music with new-wave’s idiosyncratic flourishes and the intriguing juxtaposition of the nostalgic feel of modular synthesizers weaved into the fresh, future-facing evolution of indie rock.
