New Music Alert: Nieves – Here’s To You

Dripping with raw feeling, Nieves’ latest track ‘Here’s To You’ is as haunting and as moving as ever.

For those, like me, who hadn’t previously heard of Nieves; they are 4 lads from Glasgow, who’s Scottish accents are as much of a prominent part of their music as their impassioned playing. Think Biffy Clyro with a more heart-felt, Fickle Friends vibe.

Albeit a little melancholic, ‘Here’s to you” is thick with emotion and pristinely produced; a clear display of the immense skill that Nieves possess, and showing off exactly what the band are capable of. Something that gives Nieves a subtle edge agaisnt the other bands out there is the piano work of pianist Herre de Leur; something that is particularly prominent in the intro of their latest track. Delicate guitar and piano melodies, expertly blended with gentle drum beats set the clean sounding, emotive tone of the track from the very beginning. The intensity, and distinguished rise and fall of each verse is grounded by Brendon Dafters potent vocals; whilst sincere, almost profound lyrics weave seamlessly into the entire feel of the track.

Passionately sombre; Nieves have made their skillful playing and undeniable talent for songwriting crystal clear. ‘Here’s To You’ is an absolute credit to the band and their musical progression.
