Mojo JNR is the all-new solo project from Josh David-Read and he’s just released his debut single ‘Miles Away’.

Fusing mellow folk and bedroom pop with dreamy indie pop-rock, the singer-songwriter for Cactus Haus is beginning a new musical journey.

Written at the start of UK Covid-19 lockdown overlooking a beautiful Swansea bay area in Wales, it helped Mojo JNR set the mood for ‘Miles Away’ with cool and calm rhythmic grooves and smooth vocals; it’s a carefully crafted track.

Josh’s style and attitude can easily be translated in the laid back approach of his music. Taking influences from the likes of Big Thief, Courtney Barnett and Phoebe Bridgers you can see the production of his dreamy pop-rock.

The lyrics are influenced by a book called Pan by Knut Hamsen. Written in 1894, it’s about an ex-army lieutenant who lives alone in a hut in a forest with his trusty dog Aesop. He meets a woman in a nearby town but despite being attracted to each other, neither understand the one another’s love.

This journey has only just begun for the talented musician so keep an eye out for new tracks and collaborations on Facebook and Instagram. Listen to ‘Miles Away’ below and leave an ICM Rating out of 10!
