‘We Breathe’ is the latest release from Manchester band Rivet City, taken from their ‘Live at Adelphi’ series.

The quintet say they don’t feel they necessarily fit into any one genre, and the new release certainly blends varied elements to create a brooding sound with ringing guitars, funked-out chorus and a rasping alt-rock vocal from lead singer Jake Breeze.

Jake explained of the song: “‘We Breathe’ is mainly about the process of grief, not necessarily for a person, but just about dealing with questions about the past that are never going to be answered due to circumstance.

“I also wanted it to apply to a wider social statement, so it’s about the moment that we’re in as a species. We’re standing at a crossroads regarding what we deem to be important: whether that be a nation, personal wealth, and tradition; or whether we transcend that and decide that we need to push for an unknown outcome via mutual rejection of capitalistic excesses, as well as recognising that our politics and narcissistic tendencies afforded to us by social media are strangling any chance of meaningful change via policy.

“I don’t want to go too much into the meaning of the lyrics for me personally, as I’m always more interested in what the audience takes from it, as if you asked me tomorrow, I’d probably give you a different answer, meaning I’ve never found to be anything other than transient.”
