Modern Age Music Song of the Day Alvarez Kings – ‘Words I Couldn’t Say’

South Yorkshire quartet Alvarez Kings have dropped new track ‘Words I Couldn’t Say’, following on from 2019 release ‘Invincible’.
Since forming in 2012, the band have enjoyed a rollercoaster of success, including a 2016 deal with Warner Brothers/Sire Records and the release of debut album ‘Somewhere Between’. Fast-forward to 2020 and Alvarez Kings have played major festivals such as Isle of Wight and Wireless and have amassed Spotify streams in the multi-millions.
The four-piece have teased a second album with new single ‘Words I Couldn’t Say’. The new cut is a sub three-minute blast of power pop goodness with catchy guitar work, captivating synths and hook-filled, emotionally charged lyrics.
Vocalist Simon Thompson explained: “’Words I Couldn’t Say’ came about when I was turning our spare room at home into our baby’s nursery as the acoustics were awesome.
I was writing songs off of the back of some pretty extensive touring over the years. There were definitely some issues with alcohol and substance abuse as a result, which impacted heavily on relationships.
“‘Words I couldn’t Say’ is not necessarily an autobiography or about one person in particular. It’s a story of an uncontrollable collision course of self-destruction from drug and alcohol abuse, the desolation of a failed relationship, and self-blame. ‘Words I Couldn’t Say’ is the burden of the truth and a lie that is too heavy to carry.”
