MarthaGunn shares ‘Heaven’ and announces UK tour

Brighton five-piece MarthaGunn make a grand return with their new single ‘Heaven’ and a UK headline tour.

The double announcement comes as a captivating climax to the year for the band following a successful 18 date headline tour earlier this year and the release of their debut EP.

’Heaven’, produced by Catherine Marks (Foals, Wolf Alice, Amazons), nurtures the soulful and unmistakable vocals of frontwoman Abi Woodman, in a song which is a rowdy highlight of their indie rock live set. ‘Heaven’ tells a story about the fear of change and sacrificing comfort for something possibly better.

Lead singer Abi said: “I am not comfortable being comfortable. I always want more. Sometimes I don’t know whether to accept the beauty of simplicity or to self-sabotage to find something greater.

“When I wrote ‘Heaven’ I was playing out a fantasy in my head and exploring a path I could only dream of taking. A few years on and I have stopped living in fantasies. I go after everything my soul desires. Heaven is a song for anyone dreaming of something more.”

MarthaGunn consists of five best friends – Abi, Max, Humphrey, Ally and Frankie. They first bonded together in Brighton and quickly found themselves living together.

Going on to talk about honesty in her lyrics Abi says: “When I was growing up, I wasn’t exposed to any female artists that really spoke to me. I guess that’s where I found my voice in the lack of someone saying it for me.

“I love artists like Carly Simon and Christine McVie who say things so explicitly, but I didn’t have someone to look up to that was of my generation. It feels great to now be making music amongst a generation of women who say it exactly how it is.”

Catch MarthaGunn at their rescheduled date at The Horn, St Albans on November 26th.
