JAAG defies alt rock genre with classical melodies

Classically trained opera singer and composer, Jeremiah Gray, better known as JAAG, has released his new single ‘Tension’.

The Newbury Park, California-based artist has a BA in Music Production from Cal Lutheran University and is certainly not holding back in talent.

‘Tension’ is a rich, alt-rock groove but also stays true to his classical influences with a haunting chorus melody sung as a duet. The exquisite blend of harp and cello, to eight-string electric guitar and enticing vocal layers is a sight to behold. It’s almost James Bond-like as the dramatic themed intro music.

Lyrically, ‘Tension’ encourages the listener not to strive against tension, but to cede and embrace struggle; take a leap of faith, bend the rules. JAAG will leave you humming long after your first listen.

Speaking about the recording process, Jeremiah said: “The ethos is the beauty within struggle and conflict.

“The refining process is never anything familiar, but always calls us to change in uncomfortable ways.

“Musically, I embody this with a blend of classical instruments such as harp and cello, with a modern groove and synth/vocal layers.”

The single was recorded in Sherman Oaks, California, in collaboration with mixer Frank Rosato. JAAG also worked exclusively with 17-time Grammy winner, Benny Faccone on the sound.

JAAG is currently working on a music video for ‘Tension’ featuring Nigerian choreographers, the Ebinum Brothers, from Lagos.
