Over the last year, music has seen its ups and downs including the legend David Bowie, but now we turn our attention to music’s greatest achievements from the industry in our Sound Of 2016. So without further ado, here is our first artist;
Jack Garratt
Hailing from a little village in Buckinghamshire, Garratt spent much of his youth experimenting with music at his parents’ home. The 24-year-old released his debut album ‘Phase’ in February this year through Island Records, a soul infused electro-pop that is so unique,
Writing music since he was 12 years old and learned to play a variety of instruments from the guitar all the way through the instruments to the harmonica. Garratt once said; “I love music and everything it does, so why not have a crack at everything!”
Garratt got his break after posting music to the BBC Introducing Uploader in 2009, which led to his first radio play on BBC Introducing in Beds, Herts and Bucks and since then it has all gone in his favour.
RAT BOY
Essex boy, Jordan Cardy (most of us know as RAT BOY) has been completely wowing music fans with his Jamie T and The Streets mix of indie-punk.
Winning NME’s Best New Artist early this year and has improved even more with the release of his latest EP ‘ GET OVER IT’. The upbeat and chaotic nature of his music is charming and matches his cheeky personality.
RAT BOY made his make when he supported Circa Waves on their debut album tour with hit singles ‘SIGN ON’ and ‘FAKE ID’ blew fans away. Even at festivals across the UK have seen Cardy almost solidifying his fame for 2016 only at 20.
VANT
Political band VANT formed in 2014 before signing to Parlophone Records a year later to release their debut two track EP ‘Parasite’.
VANT have now had five consecutive ‘BBC Hottest Records in the World’, with their latest being ‘Peace & Love’ you can’t help but notice the bands power within music. They release all of their emotions lyrically to back them up with a powerful indie rock sound helps get their messages across.
VANT are having an incredible time supporting You Me At Six and are now on tour with Nothing But Thieves. With their debut album ‘DUMB BLOOD’ on 17th February so go check your bank balance and book a ticket to seen them live, you seriously need to see them before they go big!
Blossoms
Hailing from Stockport, Blossoms have come out of the starting blocks like Husain Bolt! Tom Ogden (vocals), Charlie Salt (bass, backing vocals), Josh Dewhurst (lead guitar), Myles Kellock (keyboards) and Joe Donovan (drums),
Releasing their self-titled debut album in August this year, leading track Charlemagne, especially after receiving a multitude of radio plays. It sizzles with a stylish hook, but remains bouncy and energetic.
Right now it’s tour, tour and tour for the guys. Blossoms are currently on their album tour in the UK before having Christmas off to travel across Europe in Spring next year.
Sundara Karma
Sundara Karma have been chugging along smoothly in 2016, they have announced their debut album ‘Youth is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect’ due on the first Friday of January.
The quartet from Reading have been releasing a string of singles over the last 12 months including remastered single ‘Loveblood’. Sunshine enthused melodies have given Sundara Karma a bright future ahead of them. They will be touring the album in February with Blaenavon, The Night Cafe, Plae Honey and Will Joseph Cook – who all have incredible futures ahead of them.
