It’s the penultimate day in the ICM Ones To Watch series and we’ve been saving one of the best artists til last. Here’s why you need to be listening to Baby Queen.
Born in Durban, South Africa, and now based in London, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Bella Latham aka Baby Queen makes grunge pop anthems with hazy alt pop swagger.
Writing about the whirlwind life of Instagram influencers and fashion parties she’d got to as a teenager, Baby Queen is just another one of the latest disaffected Gen Z, tackling serious issues that matter like internet addiction and mental health head-on with incisive satire.
Since her debut single ‘Internet Religion’ last year, the 23-year-old signed to Polydor Records and released a cracking debut EP ‘Medicine’.
Latham might appear to not take herself too seriously, but her music certainty does a lot of the talking. Colourful guitar-led pop with swooshing synths and tinge of psychedelia is connecting with a varied and wide-reaching audience.
Baby Queen has deservedly so earned her right to be one of the latest indie craves of 2021 and we’ll be looking forward to what 2021 brings for this exciting new artist.
