Eades press photo for Fight or Flight EP

Eades release captivating EP ‘Fight or Flight’

Combining wild sonics and classic indie influences, five-piece Eades release their new EP ‘Fight or Flight’ and evolved into a well-oiled indie rock outfit.

Comprising of Harry Jordan (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Tom O’Reilly (Lead Guitar, vocals), Sam Wilde (Bass), Dan Clifford-Smith (Drums) and Tom Barr (Synths, Percussion, Vocals), the band have just finished a UK tour supporting Wunderhorse and went straight into Harry’s basement studio ‘Bam Bam Studios’ to record the EP (just like the rest of the released material).

‘Fight or Flight’ is the third EP from Eades armed with a batch of songs that would turn up the energy, excitement and fun in their live set. Energising ‘Fade Away’ will certainly be raising music venue roofs and ‘Liquid Gold’ features delicious melodies and captivating lyrics will draw in the crowds.

The goal was to put the song first and if it did not work acoustically in its purest form, it would not make the cut. In the past, the band had prioritised left-field guitar arrangements, tempo changes and other instrumental ideas to lead the song, whereas this time, the melody and lyrics would be prioritised above all else.

Harry explains: “Lyrically, the tracks tackle themes of self discovery and understanding, reflecting on the band’s experiences with anxiety, loved one’s addictions and personal growth, with the goal of better understanding our place in the world as people and musicians.”

With Tom added: “It will probably be the full stop to the way in which Eades have existed musically for the past 4 years. One final hurrah, waving goodbye to our scrappy youth in what we consider our swan song (or swan EP). It contains a distillation of all the components that made the Eades sound what it is today.

“We consider this EP to be the best version of this Eades sound. This, however, has not stopped us from hinting at changes to come. Suggestions of strangeness and maturity are peppered across the EP, which will act as Easter eggs for the Eades sound the world is yet to hear, but one that is bubbling just below the surface waiting to escape. We put a lot of time and love into this EP, we can’t wait to show you what’s to come.”

Taking transatlantic influences of Wilco, Sonic Youth and Sparklehorse with the immediacy of The Velvet Underground and The Clash, Eades have adapted and evolved over the last couple of years – continually touring around the UK, as well as over the shores into Europe. Their tight self-produced sound, and story-telling approach has crystalised into a winning calling-card.

Eades are putting theory into practice. Comfortable in their own skin, and taking the wins as they come, there’s no lack of ambition to take their riveting concoctions to the masses. All of this is beholden to a quietly confident maturation that speaks to a band in complete control.
