In my honest opinion, something we’re sorely missing more of in the current British indie scene is pop. I’ve covered a few indie pop bands, and there is certainly a rise, but none more so inspiring than Saltwater Sun.
The London outfit are currently sitting on a solid repertoire of two EPs and two singles spanning from their origins in 2015. The best part about Saltwater Sun? They’re not just any other indie pop group. They’ve completely developed their own sound into something instantly recognisable for those in the know.
Their first single Making Eyes instantly set that tone. It’s fun, upbeat, and instantly catchy which can be said for almost all of their songs. Not only have they had success with their own shows, but the band have had incredible support slots such as supporting Black Honey in Reading’s Facebar. I managed to speak to frontwoman Jenn Stearnes who was as charming and fun as their music and rocking what I believe was a broken ankle, or something to that effect, from roller derby. Yet still managed to entirely captivate her audience.
This band have already proven through their releases that they have set a bar in indie pop, building their own sound, and instantly have the standard of veteran top tier indie pop artists. The group have huge potential and I’m extremely excited to see where they head.
