Layer Cake – groovy indie-rock quartet

Brisbane quartet Layer Cake have completely smashed their debut single out the park with critics, fans and themselves.

‘Keep Me Awake’ reflects on mistakes in a flippant manner. The groovy beat and sweet guitar licks have been gripping people’s ears with authenticity.

The single is already a smash hit that reminds me of a mixture of shimmering indie-pop from Hungry Kids of Hungary and the indie-rock vibes of British India. If you haven’t heard of either two bands, then I seriously recommend that you go check them out too.

Layer Cake are “the band you didn’t see coming” (according to their Facebook page) and to be honest they’re not wrong either. Their style of indie-rock music is up there with some of the UK’s favourite rising stars.

There’s been a huge buzz circling around the quartet with a debut EP produced, engineered and recorded by Matt Redlich (Ball Park Music/ Holy Holy/ Emma Louise) on the horizon, there is still plenty more in the locker for Layer Cake.
