Wild Once

East coast quartet Wild Once release their slow-burner of a debut single ‘Perennials’.

The Buffalo, New York band formed in 2018 rising from the ashes of three bands Rust Belt Lights, As Summer Dies and Jealous consists of Tom Mayer (guitar, vocals), Anthony Granica (guitar), Jay Fritzius (bass), and Matt Bratcher (drums).

‘Perennials’ starts off with a slow drum backbeat before Mayer’s vocals and elegant guitars flick into action. The chorus kicks into an anthemic beat and a huge roar from the vocals.

Talking about the song, the band said: “‘Perennials’ was inspired by a trip to Home Depot on a downtrodden day, heading to the store to buy something mundane and adult-like. Before walking in, there were a bunch of flowers outside with a sign emerging from the soil with the advertisement: ‘Perennials come back year after year.’ Pretty deep for Home Depot, right?”

This phrase evoked the thought of the ups and downs everybody goes through. The cyclical nature of the seasons and the changes in moods and interactions. This odd inspiration set the tone for the single and the name of Wild Once’s EP sharing the same title.

The debut EP from Wild Once is out on May 10th this year via Admirable Traits Records.
