CLOSEUP Artist Spotlight – Venus Demilo

Venus Demilo

CLOSEUP’s Artist Spotlight this week comes from Liverpool quartet Venus Demilo who recently returned after a three year hiatus.

Their new EP ‘The Rest Is Just Noise’ in July and are about to release a new single on Friday. Read more about it below:

Venus Demilo, it’s a pleasure, we love your band as you know! Tell us a little about the live shows you’ve got coming up in the next 5/6 weeks!

Thanks so much! We’re playing a headline show in Liverpool at Sound Basement on 6th September.

We’re sure you get this all the time, but where did the name come from? Feel free to answer in 10 words or less if you’re already bored of this question…

Homer Simpson inspired the name from an episode with a gummy bear version of the statue. Sometimes we tell people it was a more deep and meaningful process choosing the name, but in reality, it was The Simpsons.

Your tunes have been listened to hundreds of thousands of times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?

When streaming is contributing to the bigger picture of an all round development of an artist it can be invaluable. It’s great for exposure early on and it also helps to see a bit of money too.

It can also be misleading as on the flip side the world of streaming is really dense with lots of artists all fighting for the same spots on the big playlists. I’d say it’s importance depends on everything else you have going on around it. You can also find yourself falling into the trap of creating music just for the streams which might not be a good idea long term.

If you created a VD Festival, and could pick 3 headliners, who would you go for?!

We’ve all got really varied tastes in artists but luckily for me (Tom) the rest of the band aren’t here so I’ve seized control. Queen Zee would be great for that first “I’ve just drank everything I brought for the whole weekend” night vibe to lose your shit to. I’d go for Low Island on the Saturday night and finish up with either Clean Cut Kid or Zuzu, who I can’t choose between. Maybe we’ll see what their fees would be then make the call from there.

Will there be new music for us to hear soon, possibly even next at our show?

There will, our next single ‘Losing Sleep’ will be out on the same day as our Liverpool headliner with CLOSEUP.
