CLOSEUP Artist Spotlight: Shanghai Blues

Shanghai Blues

Artist Spotlight from CLOSEUP this week is Shanghai Blues who recently returned with a new single and have their biggest headline show yet at Moth Club. To find out more on what they’ve been up to read on.

Team Shanghai Blues, it’s a pleasure, we’re such big fans of your music! You return to LDN for your biggest headline yet in September (21/9) at Moth Club, what should we expect?

Thanks guys! Yeah, we are absolutely buzzing for Moth Club, it’s going to be an intense performance from us! We’re going to unleash some new big sweaty bangers for everyone, jump around the stage and give it our fucking everything to blow the roof of the place! Expect to buy some of our merch and sink several pints with the band!

Top three songs of yours to play live. and of course, WHY?

This is tough, but I’ll give it a shot haha! In no particular order:

  • Lies – the juxtaposition of calm, vibesy verses and big sweaty banger chorus’ get the adrenaline fucking pumped. Heed normally headbutts Reece in the chest during this particular song.
  • Swim – the crowd always scream the chorus back at us which is humbling and exciting.
  • On my mind – our most recent release which bangs the whole way through! Big dynamic changes, plus big fat bad boy drums, plus searing lead lines, takeaway clean tones equals banter…

Your tunes have been listened to by hundreds of thousands times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?

We think Spotify is an amazing resource for artists as it facilitates access to an enormous population of justice listeners. It is easy to get caught up on the numbers; finding the balance between playing music and business is a challenge sometimes but we’re starting to find a good middle ground.

If you created a Shanghai Blues Festival and could pick three headliners, who would you go for?!

Don’t know. Us, us and us?

Will there be new music for us to hear soon, possibly even next at our show?

Boy oh boy oh boy we have got some tricks up our sleeve. Our latest release ‘Home’ was out on 4th September, and we have new tracks to smash out at Moth Club. Be there or be moist.
