CLOSEUP Artist Spotlight: Natalie Shay

This week, 20-year-old multi award-winning, indie pop/rock artist from North London Natalie Shay had a chat with our friends CLOSEUP for our Artist Spotlight feature ahead of headline London show next month.
Natalie, it’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. This April you take on one a huge London headline show, what should we expect!?!
The whole new EP live for the first time ever! Some stompy feet and some hair flicking.
What part of the musical process do you enjoy most, and why? is it performing live, creating your tracks or..?
Deffo playing live, I generally write songs with ‘live’ in mind, I like to write and produce things so that I know exactly how they’ll sound live and know we can have lots of fun playing them.
Your tunes have been listened to hundreds of times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?
I think its very important. I don’t think pressure on numbers should be as big a deal as it is! But I do feel that its a great way to discover and stay up to date with new music and artists you like. I know it doesn’t pay artists quite in the best way however it allows fans to enjoy more music for less money, i know without Spotify growing up I’d never have listened to as much great music as I did!
If you created a Natalie Shay Festival, and could pick three headliners, who would you go for?!
Taylor swift, Little Comets and Natalie Shay.
Tell us a little about what your new music (and the show that comes with the Naked EP) means to you?
It’s essentially what the last eight years of my music career have led up to. It’s my first EP which is a huge deal too. It’s big and very special to me, I’m excited.
