CLOSEUP Artist Spotlight: Milk.

Following last month’s announcement that CLOSEUP Promotions signed Dublin quartet milk. to their roster, they have a chat with the lads for this week’s Artist Spotlight.
milk. It’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. We’re keen to know about your live shows, what does a milk. live show usually bring?
Morgan: We take our live shows really seriously, but we have a lot of fun on stage. We always do our best to provide a cathartic, emotive experience for the audience. These guys are my friends, and I hope to let the audience in on that as much as I can in the space of our set.
Conor King: As our music continues to evolve, our live set will too. I’m really excited to play shows again in the not-too-distant future.
What part of the musical process do you enjoy most, and why? is it performing live, creating your tracks or..?
Mark: For me, definitely the writing/recording process. I love the creative energy it creates and the excitement of hearing these new sounds and songs for the first time.
Conor G: Both are pretty exciting. Making tunes Is super fulfilling and being creative in general will always get me pretty excited. But then presenting that finished product to a room of people and seeing them connect to it and sing along is pretty crazy.
Conor K: For me, I love playing music live, I really enjoy the writing/recording process but I always feel like the goal is to play what you’re creating live.
Your tunes have been listened to millions of times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?
Morgan: I think it can be hugely important for new acts – it certainly gave us more reach than we would otherwise have had. It has allowed us to share our music with listeners all around the world. Any opportunity to put our music in front of more people that may relate to it and enjoy it is one I’ll gladly take.
Mark: I think Spotify is one of the most important services in the music industry right now for helping artists get their work out there. It literally gives you the ability to listen to any song you want at any time and bypasses the need for things like Limewire (shoutout to 2006). I do think Spotify should pay artists more per stream though. It’s made it easier for artists’ music to go out, but harder for them to make money off of it.
Conor K: As a promotional tool I think Spotify is great, your music becomes instantly accessible all over the world. Obviously it isn’t a way for smaller acts to earn a living, but if you can leverage any traction you gain on Spotify for real life opportunities it can be very worthwhile.
If you created a milk. festival, and could pick 3 headliners, who would you go for?!
Mark: Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, Billie Eilish
Conor G: Fontaines D.C., Catfish and The Bottlemen, The 1975
Morgan: The Blaze, Bonobo, IDLES.
Conor K: Vince Staples, D’angelo, Kings Of Leon
Tell us a little about what your new music, when should we be expecting it?!
Mark: Our new music feels much more well-rounded to me. Like a nice mixture of songwriter music and a blatant “band”. It definitely feels like we’re finding our feet in terms of our sound. I have no idea when we’ll be releasing anything, but I really hope it’ll be in the next few months.
Conor K: I think we’re developing our own sound that we can really stand behind.
