Beachtape release EP 'Bigger Picture'

Brighton’s slacker rock quartet Beachtape released their invigorating new EP ‘Bigger Picture’ earlier this month featuring distinct beach-pop sheen.

Comprised of Rory Sear (vocals, guitar), Robbie Carman (guitar), Andy Kemp (bass) and Leo Kenyon (drums), the band occupy a similar space to The Magic Gang and Willie J Healey as their fuzz-covered tunes gain traction.

Previously released singles the sunny and contemplative ‘Somewhere Better’ and resigned, lackadaisical ‘Somebody Like Hugh’ are joined by the country-inflected ‘Loose Ends’ and the off-kilter ‘Think Line You’, which dials up the weirdness. Beachtape have been churning out brilliant slacker and lo-fi indie rock over the past three years, leaving a unique stamp in the process.

Their songs cover the fuzz of early-20s anxiety, a transitional phase of life, with peaks and troughs dictated by paradoxical instants of motivation and listlessness.

Beachtape elaborate: “These songs are inspired by our day to day lives, monotonous ways, relationships and the changes entailed.

“The EP was written and recorded over a few months where a lot changed. ‘Bigger Picture’ represents our outlook on moving forward from a weird time for us. Coincidentally into the even weirder time we are living in now with what’s going in the world.”

The ‘Bigger Picture’ EP was produced by Brighton native Theo Verney and is out now via What Marbles?
