Talu

This week CLOSEUP Spoke with indietronica trio Talu for our Artist Spotlight feature following the release of their new single ‘Take You Home’ to discuss all things live.

Talu, it’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. Tell us a bit more about yourselves?

We’re so pleased to hear that! So we’re a three-piece indietronica band from Sussex. We created Talu a couple of years ago when our former project came to an end. There’s three of us – Will on lead vocals, electronics and guitar, Nat on drums and vocals and David on guitar and vocals. Then we have our main man Cy who joins us on bass when we play live.

What part of the musical process do you enjoy most, and why? is it performing live, creating your tracks or..?

You know what, it’s probably 50/50! We love hunkering down and getting stuck into writing new tracks. There’s something special about creating something new from nothing. However, you can’t really beat the excitement and thrill of playing live.

Your tunes have been listened to thousands of times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?

It’s absolutely massive – Spotify, and the playlists especially can catapult a band forward overnight. However, we’re trying not to get too hung-up on the stats. Getting thousands of streams is great, but what’s really important is that individuals connect and get something from our music. If our music can genuinely move people, then that’s probably more important than 1000s of casual listens to a song. Having said that, we’d probably still give an organ to get placed on one of the massive playlists – however maybe one of the less vital ones!

If you created a Talu Festival, and could pick three headliners, who would you go for?!

Oohh that’s a tough one – we’re gonna say Bombay Bicycle Club, Bon Iver and Frank Ocean.

Tell us a little about what your new music, when should we be expecting it?!

So we just released a new single called Take You Home last week – that’s out on all the usual places you’d expect! We’re also just putting the finishing touches on a new 4-track EP called Something To Build. We’re hoping to get that out in the Autumn!
