With 2016 over, we look ahead to what musical talent 2017 can offer, and with the masses of acts out there in the industry there is plenty for us to get excited about. Throughout January, ICM will be highlighting one new band each day and showing just why they should be on your music radar. Our 21st band is Sundara Karma.
We’ve always been blown away by Sundara Karma’s musical talent and that showed on IndieCentralMusic through the last year.
Breaking it down to the basics of their signature sound: take the highlight of every Sundara song; ethereal vocals, heartfelt instrumental, somewhat profound lyrics and breezy character.
Opening ‘Olympia’ with a spark; subtly rousing baselines beneath an infectious lead riff, endorsed by the underemphasised echoing guitar chords. The song ignites with striking lyrics fed by an equally deep-seated and polished instrumental.
The single ‘She Said’ was released back in the summer. ‘She Said’, holds the catchy, upbeat tone which is the foundation of earlier single ‘Flame’.This track is also reminiscent of 90s Britpop; a great chorus, a storyline and a drop of melancholy. ‘She Said’ is a story about how nights start with wanting to go out dancing. It encompasses lively guitar and gentle percussion into the heart of the track. Sundara Karma translates to ‘Beautiful Karma’ and this is what they have produced. This track simultaneously calms you down but also urges you to move your arms and head.
After 2 EP’s and 6 teaser singles throughout 2016, which kept fans engaged and gave fans a true flavour of what to expect, Sundara Karma have finally released the highly anticipated debut album, ‘Youth is only ever Fun in Retrospect’, this album has redefined the expectations of a debut album. It’s class. ‘Youth is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect’ unveils Sundara Karma to the world but also summarises the highs and lows of growing up in 12 anthemic tracks. Consequently, making them this year’s leaders of the revival of the indie genre. Sundara Karma’s debut is filled with hit after hit and could even be called ‘arena ready’.
We will be announcing a new band every day throughout the entirety of January and the ICM long list will be announced on February 1st.
