Sarpa Salpa – Funky Pop Guitar

Sarpa Salpa takes a well-known and well-worn sound and somehow make it feel fresh. Funky guitar with a pop beat and 80’s synth. We’ve all heard it before, but Sarpa Salpa makes it seem new and exciting all over again.

Each song bounces and dances around, never staying in one place. It’s an exceptionally fun track, which you can’t help but want to dance along to. Each song is jam-packed of ideas and Marcus’s vocals are smooth and gorgeous to listen to.

Latest single ‘Smith’ is a perfect example of all of this. It takes you on a journey, from janky echoing guitars to punchy beats, sad soaring synth, and back into funky town.  Only to end in a crescendo of brutal guitar and desperation filled vocals.

In an interview with Lost in the Manor, the band talked about their inspirations for ‘Smith’. Guitarist George said he got the idea for the riff by listening to Don Broco’s new album. While singer Marcus said the lyrics were based on a girl he used to know,

“Basically I met up with this girl I’d been speaking to for a little while, we spent the night together and really got to know each other in quite a short period of time. And almost immediately after that, the relationship was broken off. The last thing I remember was looking over my shoulder and seeing her watching me as I walked down the street!”

Sarpa Salpa are reminiscent of Foals, Everything Everything, and Friendly Fires. Hailing from Northampton, they were formed back in 2016 by Marcus Marooth and George Neath and were soon joined by Charlie Die and Ethan Whitby.
