Rounding off his slew of 2018 releases with a love-laced single ‘highschool’, Pizzagirl has managed to turn his own nostalgia for the 80s on us. At only 20 years old, Liverpool-based Pizzagirl was barely alive in the 90s, let alone the 80s, but that hasn’t stopped him from drenching ‘highschool’ in so many synths we’re convinced we’re stuck in a John Hughes coming-of-age classic.

His penchant for American TV and iconic 80s movie scenes is filtered into all aspects of his creativity, so much so his upcoming album (set for release in November) is named Season 2. Lead single ‘highschool’ is an unabashed appreciation post to the Brat Pack era; he frets about losing his ‘cool’ and reflects on times passed in the school hallways. Neon synths swirl in and out of cavernous reverb and funky, electro-pop rhythms supported by belting power ballad drums.

The Liverpool-based musician and producer records all of his sounds and visuals from a flatpack mini studio in the comfort of his own home, successfully capturing his zany, romantic sentiment. ‘highschool’ is the first taste from Pizzagirl’s new EP Season 2, set to release in November this year.
