Canadian alternative duo fxrrvst (pronounced forest) create pop-rock and emo with lyrics designed to bring the world closer together.
Returning after a three-year hiatus, the Toronto-based outfit share new single ‘Hate Has No Home Here’ a driving pop-rock anthem which gradually builds in momentum.
Despite writing the song over a year ago, its meaning is more relevant now than ever. A message of unity, ‘Hate Has No Home Here’ deviates from the band’s usual motive of mental health, and instead calls on the listener to take a stand and take action on what’s happening around them.
Given the status of the world currently, whether war, human rights, or politics, fxrrvst summarises the stance we all should take both in the title of the song and as heard in the chanting throughout the bridge and last chorus.
The track features delightful pop melodies and driven guitar rhythms which perfectly contrast with the softness of Holly’s vocals, which are amazing on this song. Matt’s signature chime-like playing has been a staple since the band formed in 2017. The chorus’ explode with texture and tone, creating a sense of togetherness. Every individual part is added at once to create a massive change, very similar to the song’s lyrical basis.
