Anthemic alt rockers The Strangers Club continue to pounce on 2021 with latest single ‘Catching Fire’.
The Bournemouth University born quartet deliver dark yet dreamy melodic rock with twangy guitar riffs and rumbling atmospherics.
Comprising of George Aquilla Hardy (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Harry Millward (Drums), Richard Barnes (Bass), and Lee Chadwick (Lead Guitar) in 2018, The Strangers Club kicked off 2021 with groovy indie bop ‘Suede’.
On ‘Catching Fire’, the boys fire-up a poetically-driven song riddled with passion and empowerment. Without being tied down by one genre, the band have stepped up to become a versitiale alt rock outfit which is already well-known on the south-coast scene for their energetic live performances and fuzzy, bluesy, alternative rock sound.
On the narrative of the track, singer George explains: “It begins at the point of accepting hopelessness, then moves into disobedience, and rising towards outright defiance; breaking your chains and running for it, whilst belting in the chorus ‘When I run, I will get away, from the slack that’s in the chain!’”
Throughout elements of synth and electronica ground the tune, whilst ‘Catching Fire’ finishes with a gorgeous climactic orchestra, beautifully playing out the final moments. It’s going to be the perfect track to end any live set.
After a promising start to 2020, playing packed shows in London venues such as Brixton Jamm and Gigi’s Hoxton, The Strangers Club are certainly ready to hit the road again.
