The Magnolias debut infectious and warming indie rock

Chapel Hill, North Carolina trio The Magnolias are a fresh band on the block bringing an infectious and warming blend of indie rock.

Debuting their new double-sided single ‘Goodnight, I’m Going To Sleep’ / ‘Blood In The Sink’, the outfit comprising of Sam Gatlin (keys, guitar, bass, percussion) Bryton Shoffner (percussion, guitar, keys, bass) and Danny Knutelsky (vocals, guitar), they fuse acoustics with indie rock, pop and ambient sounds.

Taking inspiration from he likes of Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver, The 1975, and Jacob Collier, The Magnolias were asked by Sam’s Grammy-nominated music production lecturer Jason Richmond (Kate McGarry) to produce the record for them.

Not only did he do an incredible job bringing the etheral atmospherics and striking vocals together, the band have completed writing and recording their debut album.

“This feels very honest to us. This is the most accurate representation of our music and who we are, not just musically, but artistically.”

Pushing for new levels of musicality through lyrics and instrumental composition that elevates one another has brought ‘Goodnight, I’m Going To Sleep’ to life. Injected with simple riffs and soaring vocals, the track feels cinematic and memorable. You get the sense they’ve been playing together for decades, not months.

Sam adds: “We are a brand new band pushing ourselves to be the best we can be and we hope others will see that.

“Although we are young, we believe we have a professional sound that people need to hear. We want to create memorable art that eases people’s burdened spirits.”

The events that inspired ‘Goodnight, I’m Going To Sleep’ was a trip to Charleston that Sam went on. He was with his family the entire time, but couldn’t shake the feeling of isolation.

Overall this is a super impressive debut. The Magnolias are hitting all the right notes which continues to grown on their next single ‘Enjoy The Show’, an anthemic piano-led ballad.
