Overwhelmed with emotion, Wigan trailblazers The Lathums share ‘Sad Face Baby’, the first taste of new music since the band’s debut album last year.
Capitalising on their UK Number 1 album ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be’, the band are in the initial stages of sketching out Chapter Two of their incredible story working alongside Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club).
Performed for the first-time last summer, ‘Sad Face Baby’ is a slow-burning rock anthem that builds up to a bouncy chorus as Alex Moore’s soaring vocals layer on top are the most penetrating vocal performance yet.
Carefully calculated basslines of Johnny Conliffe’s guitar are lifted to new levels with Ryan Durrans’ spin-sharp percussion.
Reflecting on ‘Sad Face Baby,’ and the last two years of the band’s lives, Moore says: “The Lathums has been a world of opportunity for us, but things still get to you.
“We have had to come to understand each other more and the ways the world works around us.
“Naivety and innocence have been lost and ‘Sad Face Baby’ is the sharper edge of what we can do as a band.”
The Lathums are about to embark on a four-date tour of Ireland later this month and have a jam-packed summer of festivals ahead including Neighbourhood Weekender, TRNSMT and Liverpool Sound City. Find all tour dates here.
