The Gloom press photo for single Æons

The Gloom has released their first commercial single Æons since the release of their self-titled debut EP.

Behind the solo project is Israeli musician, guitarist, singer-songwriter and producer Yoav Landau, who has gained a craft of producing anthemic alternative rock since he was a teenager.

‘Æons’ is built around a looped, chopped-up chord progression influenced by the writing style of The Pixies. Its wall of sound production was influenced by the post punk of Joy Division and the noise-pop of The Jesus & Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine.

Its main melodic hook features Landau’s distinctive, effects-heavy Bass VI. Underneath lies a post-punk rhythm section, as well as multiple reverb-soaked layers of Solina string synth and alternative-tuned fuzzy guitars.

The Lyrics for the track, Yoav said: “The song drew heavy inspiration from the movie ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’ and were written on a single bus drive. It is an apocalyptic love song, written as the words of a man to his lover while standing on the brink of mass extinction caused by a meteor crashing into Earth.”

While revolving around a theme most would find dire, ‘Æons’ is supposed to be viewed as a rather bittersweet-almost ironic tune, with a dreamy dancefloor-ready atmosphere. Check out the single below and leave an ICM Rating out of 10!
